A significant new development project in downtown Chilliwack is poised to kick off in upcoming months.
The Algra Bros take possession of the collection of properties on the southeast corner of Five Corners in late November, kicking off a transformation that is expected to serve as a major boost to the revitalization efforts in the area.
As things get going, people are going to notice some changes in the area. These properties were previously controlled by the City of Chilliwack, and much of the space was offered as “public” access. It is now private property being prepped for major construction. Many of the businesses along the south side of Yale between Young and Nowell have been relocated to allow for renovations of the existing buildings, and the empty buildings have been boarded up. The majority of the area will be enclosed by construction fencing, restricting public access.
While some of the parking will continue to be accessible, much of the gravel parking areas will be closed off for construction, forcing some regular downtown patrons to adjust their parking habits. There are a number of free or inexpensive parking options in the Five Corners area, and the BIA, City and local businesses appreciate everyone’s patience during construction this exciting project.
